Principal’s Report 2/28/14
Dear Lumen Christi,
Thank you to everyone who helped out last weekend with the Winter Gala Event for the school. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, fun, and fundraising! The monies raised at the event will ensure our students continue to receive a strong Catholic education at an affordable cost. You can find pictures from the evening at the Lumen Christi Facebook page.
Next week is a busy week for the school. The Basketball teams leave for Regionals at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, March 4th. Wednesday, March 5th is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Please remember, during Lenten Season the school will implement full day (Wednesday schedules) every Friday so students can attend Mass. This means that until after Easter, school will not get out on Friday until 2:30 PM. Finally, next Friday is a “Teacher Work Day”. There will be no school for students on Friday, March 7th – and, it will be the start of Spring Break. The school will be closed the week of March 10th. We will look forward to seeing students again on Monday, March 17th – relaxed, rested, and ready for the final quarter of the school year.
It’s hard to believe the 2014 – 2015 school year is right around the corner! We plan to begin pre-enrollment for next year shortly after Spring Break. The pre-enrollment period will run from March 18th until April 15th. The pre-enrollment period is for Lumen students who plan to return for the following academic year. As you know, each grade level is capped at 20 students. Once we have current students enrolled for the 2014 – 2015 academic year, we will open up enrollments to the larger Anchorage community. Once a grade level reaches 20 students, the school will start a waiting list. Therefore, if you want to ensure a place for next year, please take advantage of the pre-enrollment opportunity! You can pre-enroll at the front desk starting Tuesday, March 18th. We will also send packages home with students on Wednesday, March 19th. If you have any questions, please contact the front desk.
Lumen would like to thank the Copper Valley High School Alumni Association who recently donated $1,000 scholarship for a student at Lumen. The scholarship is for a student who seeks a strong Catholic education and may have financial need. Lumen Christi High School was founded by many of the CVHS alumni, so the school appreciates the continued legacy of CVHS. If you would like to apply for the scholarship, stop by the front desk and pick up an application.
Do you have a school uniform that your child has outgrown? If so, please drop it off at the school or the Archangel attic. We have growing students who are looking for uniforms for the rest of this school year. Lands’ End is largely out of girls’/womens’ navy cardigans and they are backordered till about the end of school. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Lumen continues to appreciate the hard work of the PVO! There will not be a PVO meeting on March 4th. However, a special PVO meeting on fundraising has been scheduled for March 25th at 6:30 PM. This is an extremely important meeting to discuss fundraising for our school, our progress this year, and brainstorm future plans for accomplishing our budgetary goals. Please plan to attend and bring plenty of great ideas and energy!
All families should be aware that opportunities to earn share hours, particularly fundraising hours, are becoming more limited as the year winds down toward summer. Some opportunities are listed below – please sign up! If you need to earn additional share hours, we may also need help in other areas intermittently. Please contact the Office or Gail Grafton for further information.
Jr. High Indoor Soccer – We need help in the Snack Shack for Junior High Indoor Soccer rallies. These hours count as fundraising hours.
