Assessments and Interviews:

April 2, 3, 4, 2024

All incoming students, regardless of grade are required to complete a math and language arts assessment. Assessments are administered to determine if admitted, what math class the student will be placed in; and at what level of reading comprehension/writing students are working.  These assessments are not graded and if admitted, do not become a part of the student’s official record or transcript.

Assessments for the 2024-25 School Year will be administered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 2-4 from 3:30-5:00pm.  Prospective students are required to attend two of the three days. On the first day the math assessment will be administered and on the second day, the language arts one.

After submitting your completed Application, Request for Records and paying the $100 registration fee, please email Anne Gore at agore@lumenchristiak.com to register for April assessments. In your email, please indicate your student’s name, current school, current grade, current math class and which two of the three days your student will be attending.

*Note for parents/guardians of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton 6th grade students: You do not need to register for assessment days. A Lumen representative will come to administer these at SEAS during the last month of school.

Prospective students who miss the April assessments but are interested in enrolling will be scheduled on a case-by-case basis. Please email agore@lumenchristiak.com for further information.

Following assessments, a brief interview with the Principal or designee will be scheduled. These interviews are a time for students to introduce and share a bit about themselves with their potential Principal; and for families to ask any questions they might have about becoming part of the Lumen Christi family.

Acceptance:

April 22-26, 2024

Acceptance decisions will be made by a team comprised of the Principal, the Dean of Academics, the Director of Advancement and one-two select teachers.

May 3rd, 2024

Student acceptance letters with an invitation to complete the enrollment process will be mailed out on Friday, May 3rd.

If the school is unable to place the student, families will also be notified in writing and given the option to discuss the decision further with the Principal or Director of Advancement.

Admissions Policies

Lumen Christi High School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national or ethnic origin in admissions or in the administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic programs, or other school-administered programs.

Lumen Christi is not an interim school for students expelled or suspended from the public school system.

Lumen Christi does not have a Special Education department. Students with 504 or Individual Education Plans (IEPs) may be accepted, but Lumen will not put in place formal IEPs for students. Out of fairness to students, students who test more than one grade level below their current grade in any entrance assessment may be placed in the lower grade and/or directed to a school that will better provide for their educational needs.

Although Lumen Christi High School admits both Catholic and non-Catholic students, we do prioritize for admittance to the school in the following order:

  1. Siblings of current Lumen Christi students;
  2. Families from our parish, Saint Benedict Church;
  3. Families from Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, our sister school;
  4. Families from all other Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau parishes;
  5. All other students.

All students, regardless of faith background, are required to complete the theology curriculum and to participate in activities related to the Catholic identity of Lumen Christi.  This includes attending Mass and other religious events.  Please see the Parent Student Handbook for additional details.

Please call the Director of Advancement at (907) 273-1538 or email agore@lumenchristiak.com if you have questions regarding admissions.

International Student Program

General

Lumen Christi High School is certified as a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) school under the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) bureau of the Department of Homeland Security.  As such, the school is authorized to issue ICE Form I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status” to international students who apply for and are accepted into our school program.  Lumen Christi uses the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to administer and maintain information on nonimmigrant international students.

As a condition of acceptance, international students and their families have proven financial solvency and have secured housing on their own. Lumen Christi does not assist students in finding housing or host families, nor does it award financial assistance in order to attend.

For more information about Lumen’s international student enrollment, please view the “International Student Program” information in the 2024-25 Parent Student Handbook or contact the Director of Advancement at agore@lumenchristiak.com.
