What other hands on learning was on recent display? Budding biotechnologists had to solve a murder mystery using lab skills hones over the semester; and biology students learned their blood types….starting with a good ol’fashioned needle stick to the finger! They then had to mix their blood with antibodies against Type A and B blood and monitor for the presence and absence of certain antigens.

What WON’T you find at Lumen Christi? Rote learning and dull worksheets.
What will you find? Hands on learning that spills out of classrooms and into the hallways, engaging our students and promoting critical thinking.
First up: An application of the Law of Reflection! Students were challenged to move the light from a laser through 3 mirrors at different angles with a minimum of 1.5 meters in between, and hit a target at the end! ... See MoreSee Less

We love our House system here at Lumen...."6 Houses, One Home."
Throughout the school year, each House gets a full week of celebration and recognition. Usually, this aligns with the saint's particular feast day, but St. Paul's official feast day is over the summer, and the feast day of his conversion is during/around Catholic Schools Week (a really busy time in the school.)
Ultimately, the House of St. Paul decided the month of March was a good time to celebrate. Last week and leading into Spring Break, they pulled out all the stops! Here's a re-cap of their activities week:
Monday: Lumen Spirit Wear Day and pizza party during Study Hall 🍕🍕🍕.
Tuesday: House Color Day. House competition during 7th Hour (1:45 - 2:00 p.m.). Students had to construct out of playdough St. Paul's conversion, the healing of his blindness, and his death! The event was competitive, but congrats to the House of St. Joan of Arc for winning the competition!
Wednesday: Mass Day for Ash Wednesday Mass. The House of St. Paul went over for Hot Lunch (🍳🥞🥚) during lunch time.
Thursday: Casual Day. Stations during 7th hour. Girl Scout cookies distributed to one and all! 🍪🍪🍪
Friday: No School
Throughout the week: House members prayed for our priests and helped make a craft for the annual Priest Convocation to be held later this month✝️. They also decorated our bulletin board with fun facts about St. Paul for everyone to see.
Way to go House of St. Paul - we hope you enjoyed your week of celebration ... See MoreSee Less
It was an honor to tour this fine group around our school and brainstorm on ways to integrate our Lumen Christi community with the Naval personnel who will be here in June.
Fun fact: Four branches on the military are represented in this picture! Retired Army (Mr. Rick Spearman in the red shirt), retired Marine (Mr. Ross), retired Airforce (Fr. Tom) and of course the remaining Naval officers and personnel. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️
All conference games will be live streamed on the Lumen Christi NHFS network website - go here: www.NHFSnetwork.com and search for Lumen Christi in Anchorage, AK.

Phew - It was a busy weekend with many activities occurring simultaneously!
In the sports arena, our co-ed Middle School Volleyball Team had an undefeated season and walked away with the conference trophy on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, our High School JV & Varsity Basketball Boys & Girls Teams all played their final games of their regular season against Seward. While only the Varsity Boys Team was victorious, all teams played with heart (and our JV teams took time out to pose with Luce, the Jubilee Year of Hope Mascot!).
On the academic front, we had 5 students competing in three different categories at the ASAA Debate Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday. We're proud of our Extemporaneous Speakers Addi N., Aurora W. and Cameron D; our Reader's Theater team of Cameron D., Lucille S. and Henry M., with Henry also competing in the Pantomime category.
We love watching how our students excel, compete and support each other in so many different extra curriculars. ... See MoreSee Less
This posting is a few days late, but the sentiment is heartfelt nonetheless!
We had “Senior Night“ for our basketball players on Tuesday and couldn’t be more proud of the nine, exceptional young men and women who are celebrating their last season on the court with us.
Without exception they represent the attributes of Lumen Christi graduates both on the court and off, and we hope that their time on their team will provide lasting memories as they move into the ext chapters of their lives.
Congratulations Addison, Alliyah, Amara, Carson, Divine, Hayden, Justin, Kyle and Troy! ... See MoreSee Less
Two of our graduating seniors, Lucille S. and Amara W. (front row, second and third from the left) attended the "Smart Girls Rock" banquet this past Saturday evening, at the culmination of National Engineers Week. Congratulations to Lucille who was awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Alaska Engineering Education Foundation during the event!
Included in this picture is the key note speaker Jessica Rae Vos (behind Amara) a NASA spacecraft systems engineer who hails from Chugiak. Others in the photo include UAA engineering students and Mrs. Virginia Groeschel, a former Lumen Christi board member who sponsored the table.
Between them, Lucille and Amara have an impressive list of universities courting them (including Colorado School of Mines, South Dakota School of Mines, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin/Green Bay, Catholic University, among many others) and we know that wherever they land, success is a forgone conclusion! ...
