Principal’s Update:
Did you know that our annual fund drive, the LUMENary Drive, has officially started? This year, our goal is to raise $40,000 as a school community. This drive, combined with other development and fundraising efforts like the Gala, the Archangel Attic, the Lighting the Path to the Future appeal, and the financial and material investment from St. Benedict’s parish, helps reduce our tuition by over $9,000 per student! A successful LUMENary Drive is absolutely critical to the financial health and stability of our school.
Within the next day or so, you will receive a letter from me, Father Tom, and our School Board Chair, Mr. Greg Gallagher. We are trying something a bit different this year for the 2018-2019 LUMENary Drive. We are asking each Lumen family to help us raise $500 towards our overall goal. Your LUMENary Drive packet will come with a pledge envelope for your family, as well as additional fund drive brochures and pledge envelopes and Fall Open House invitations. You will also receive an email with electronic attachments of the same. Please read the materials carefully this weekend as we are asking you to identify 4-5 close and extended family and friends who you think may want to give a tax-deductible donation to support the mission of Catholic education here at Lumen. We hope our students will send a personal note or email appeal to those family members and friends, along with the informational materials, asking them to consider supporting our school. Together, as a Lumen community, we can meet, and exceed, our fund drive goal. Thanks in advance for your assistance in this effort!
Finally, we pray for and wish our girls volleyball team success in the Spike-tacular Tournament which starts today. I look forward to seeing you in the stands cheering on our Archangels. And we hope you have a wonderful and safe extended weekend!
Campus Ministry:
-
10th Grade will be on retreat Friday, November 16. We will spend the morning in reflection and prayer here at Lumen and the afternoon will be in service to the community off campus. We will return to Lumen Christi at 2:30 p.m. Please note this is later than the regular Friday dismissal time. Permission slips will be given to students next Thursday, October 25th.
-
Please join our Lumen Christi Jingle Bell Run team. The run takes place on Dec. 8, 2018 and benefits The Arthritis Foundation. Students, teachers and families had a great time last year. You can sign up through this link: https://events.arthritis.org/team/lumenarchangels.

Volunteers are needed for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Gala on Nov 9. Let Mrs. Gore at the Front Desk if your student(s) can help.

Pope Francis has issued a special invitation for the faithful to pray the Rosary and the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel each day during October for the protection of the Church from evil. This is a great family activity for this month. Our Campus Ministry Bulletin Board is devoted to reflecting the Rosaries said by our families. Each time a rosary is said students are encouraged to record their family names on a bead and add it to the board.
-
We have Mass on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:15am in our Archangel Chapel, and each Thursday at 9am at St. Benedict Church. Please join us!
-
Calling all students to join our team for the November 30th Dodgeball tournament. It will be held at Lumen Christi and teams from parishes all over the Archdiocese will be competing. See Mrs. Loeffler for more info.
-
There are still spots for Friday 12:30-3 pm service at our sister school, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. While parents are responsible for picking up students at Lumen at the normal Friday dismissal time (12:20p) and getting them over to SEAS, we are hoping to start a rotating carpool among parents so driving duty can be shared. This is a great way for students to earn Share Hours and support our sister school. Let Mrs. Loeffler know if you’re interested.
Upcoming Events
Youth Night is held at St. Benedict Church each Wednesday – all high school Lumen students are welcome! Several Theology teachers offer extra credit for Faith events attended outside of school hours. Students can check with teachers.
