Principal’s Update:
We had a successful Winter Wonderland Gala last Saturday and a good time was had by all. We raised money for our Fund a Project, for our Tuition Scholarship Fund, and for general operating purposes. Many thanks to all the volunteers who help set up, take down, procure, disburse, serve, decorate, and organize the event, especially Danielle Rybicki, Julie Irving, and Michell Goodwin. We are so very blessed to have great parents here at Lumen. And our students shined through their selfless service to the community as well. Great job everyone!
Last week, I issued a “30-day Challenge.” I’ve taken Gala off but added the Fur Rondy Parade:
-
Invite a prospective family to our Open Houses on March 5 and April 4. NEW REFERRAL PROGRAM: For each new family that you bring to our Open Houses, a $25 credit will be rewarded to your tuition account (maximum credit of $100).
-
Support the LUMENARY Drive
-
Sign up to work a Friday shift at the Archangel Attic
-
Submit a positive review of the school online on Great Schools, K12 Niche, Private School Review, and Google. Those families that provide reviews will be entered to receive $50 off your tuition!
-
Come on out and walk or ride our school Fur Rondy parade float on Saturday, Feb 23rd.
-
Make a commitment as a family to attend morning Mass at 7:15am as available.
Finally, our re-enrollment campaign is underway and overwhelmingly positive. At this point, we have over 80{87587bff62748d853b25c5c00e545c389c2cc3e9e64848ccec5036484113dbfe} of our families committed to returning next year. Thank you for your quick response! Next week, we will extend a similar offer to prospective families. The great news is that our incoming 7th grade class is already filling up, even before our two Open Houses in March and April.
We wish you a restful weekend! God bless!
Virtue of the Week:
The Sports Leader Virtue of the Week is ENDURANCE: The strength to suffer through adversity with courage. A quote about ENDURANCE:
“In order for there to be ups, there must be downs. Remember all your failures so when you succeed you can look back and have pride that you had strength enough to overcome.”

Archangel Sports Update:
The Junior High Volleyball Team continues their season with a Conference Tournament here at Lumen on Saturday from 8a-1p. Grab your coffee and start your morning off with some volleyball action and cheer the Archangels on!
The Anaktuvuk Pass and Fort Wainwright basketball teams proved to be formidable challengers for both the Boys’ and Girls’ teams last weekend. While neither of the Lumen teams were ultimately successful, team play was AMAZING. The Girls took on Akiachak last night and while the victory went to Akiachak, the Lady Archangels play so well together as a team it’s just a joy to watch. Come check them out tomorrow as they take on Ninilchik at 3:30p and on Saturday at 2p. The Boys’ games will follow both Girls’ games at 5p on Friday & 3:30p on Saturday. Go Archangels!
Student Spotlight:
No doubt – Archangels do amazing things both on campus and off. Congrats to the following student for off-campus excellence last week:
Tommy Simono placed 28th overall in the Region IV Nordic Ski Championships last Friday and Saturday; one of four freshmen to place in the top thirty for both races. With this performance he was named to the Service High School state team for the Alaska High School Nordic Championships occurring next week in Fairbanks. Go Tommy, we’ll be cheering you on from afar!
*Parents/Guardians – if your student has done something that deserves “Spotlight” recognition, please let Mrs. Gore at the Front Desk know!

Fur Rondy Grand Parade Float
For the second year in a row, Lumen Christi High School will participate in the 2019 Fur Rondezvous Grand Parade on Saturday, Feb 23rd. We are asking ALL AVAILABLE FAMILIES to come out and either walk alongside our “float” or even ride on it! This is an historical, memorable, and fun way to highlight and showcase our school to the Anchorage community. Thousands of people line the parade route along 5th and 6th Avenues downtown!!! We will show our school spirit and hand out candy and invitations to our March and April Open Houses at the same time! Show time is 9:45am at the staging area at the corner of 8th and C Streets downtown, near the Federal Bldgs and the Quality Suites Historic Downtown hotel. As an added challenge, the class/grade with the highest percentage of students participating will get a pizza party!
National Honor Society Pizza Lunches
Speaking of pizza, the National Honor Society will be selling pizza tomorrow/Friday, after school. Send your students with $2-$3 for an afterschool snack and support NHS.
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS!
Mrs. Brewer has applications for the Pioneers of Alaska annual scholarship. If any senior’s parent is a member or they are related to a member, please pick up an application and consider applying. Every little bit helps with college tuition.
National Honor Society Tutoring
The National Honor Society will be offering free after school tutoring every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30p. NHS members encourage any students with homework questions or who need help with math or writing assignments to stop in for additional help. This tutoring is offered in addition to what is available on Mondays in the Library.
SAVE THE DATE! “The Count of Monte Cristo”
Drama students are hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes and preparing for opening night! Mark your calendars for April 12th or 13th to catch their spring production of The Count of Monte Cristo featuring 2 of our graduating seniors, Trey Bernert and Shon Nagel.
The BIO Lab needs help!
The LCHS biology department is looking for a donation of a small mini freezer that can be set to -20 degrees F. Students will be using this to conduct upcoming DNA and genetics activities. Please contact Mrs. Brewer at dbrewer@lumenchristiak.org if you can help.
