URGENT REQUEST – PROM HELP NEEDED:
Schedules got a little wonky for Saturday morning prom set up, but we’ve been given the all-clear to decorate Viking Hall early – as in TOMORROW (Friday) from 10a-2p. We know it’s not a convenient time for working families, but Mrs. Goodwin and Student Government representatives could use some help if you’re at all able. If you have questions or can help for even part of the time, please call Mrs. Goodwin at 317-0690.
We anticipate set up being completed on Friday, but if for any reason we need additional help, a “Remind” message will be sent out for help on Saturday morning. (Note that we could still use some clean up help on Saturday evening at 11p!) Viking Hall is located at 8141 Briarwood Street.
Principal’s Update:
I write this update to you from the “Windy City” of Chicago, where Mrs. Loeffler and I are attending the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) annual conference. Over 9,000 educators from Catholic schools around the world are here to learn and share best practices in Catholic education. We’ve participated in beautiful liturgies and attended informational workshops on campus ministry, marketing and enrollment, servant leadership, and academic instruction. We will share what we’ve learned with our fellow faculty upon our return Friday.
Congratulations to Jack Schroder (9th grade) and Tate Hart (8th grade) who led efforts to collect 350 pairs of used shoes from the school, St. Benedicts and Holy Cross Parish as part of their Holy Cross Confirmation Service Project. “Kicks for Kids,” the charity recipient was thrilled with their efforts. Thanks to the many students who brought their shoes in for donation!
Finally, a well done to the dozen junior and senior high students who put on a dramatic and emotional Passion Play and Reflection for our school on April 15th and for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School students on April 18th. We got so much positive feedback that we look forward to making this an annual tradition!
Have a great weekend!
Virtue of the Week:
This week’s Sportsleader Virtue is GENEROSITY – The strength to go beyond the call of duty. It is so much easier to just do the bare minimum, to do only what others ask me to do.
Campus Ministry:
-
Registration for ACYC (Alaska Catholic Youth Conference) 2019 is now open. ACYC is a gathering of Alaskan teens, young adults, parents, pastoral administrators, and parish staff members. It features both Alaskan and national Catholic musicians and speakers who will help teens live as missionary disciples in their communities, whether that be rural or urban. The week will include Eucharistic liturgies, reconciliation, workshops, a concert, and yes, fun! As Pope Francis tweets: “A Christian is never bored or sad. Rather, the one who loves Christ is full of joy and radiates joy.” Teens who journey to ACYC will return radiating the joy of renewed faith and a strengthened desire to live as God’s disciples! For registration and more information, check out: http://bit.ly/2019ACYC.

School Announcements:
2019-20 Art Classes
Ms. Rachael Androski, our art teacher for next year was by to do a presentation for budding Archangel artists. Drawing on inspiration from Notre Dame Cathedral’s Rose Window (which was spared in the recent fire), Mrs. Androski had students complete their own unique panel which was then assembled on the window in the Front Office. Stop by to admire their amazing work, or check out our Facebook page where pictures have also been posted!
SCRIP
Our next order deadline is Thursday, May 2; this will be the last Scrip order of the school year. This is a great time to pick up gift cards for graduations and Mother’s Day! The Scrip program allows you to purchase gift cards at face value, which then results in an instant rebate that comes back to Lumen. Please consider buying gift cards from hundreds of popular retailers to use as gifts, or pay for your everyday purchases using gift cards instead of cash or credit cards. Place your order online at www.shopwithscrip.com or fill out the attached order form and return it to the office. Rebates vary and are listed next to the name of each merchant. If you’re setting up an account on shopwithscrip.com for the first time, Lumen’s enrollment code is: B968B67E44853. Questions on the Scrip program can be directed to kap.celine@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting Lumen Christi’s fundraising efforts by purchasing gift cards through Scrip!
Senior Parents
Parents of upcoming graduates – your SmartTuition account must be paid in full prior to graduation. Please check with our Business Manager Danna Hoellering at 273-1553 if you have any questions.
“Dine to Donate” at Texas Roadhouse
Please consider eating out this coming Tuesday, April 30th at the Texas Roadhouse, 9100 Old Seward Highway. 10% of all proceeds will be donated back to Lumen. Students will be coming home on Tuesday with vouchers to present to your server if you’re able to join us. The more, the merrier!
2019-20 Uniforms
Our vendors school uniforms will remain the same for next year – Lands End and Tommy Hilfiger. We know there were issues with Tommy this year but have been reassured that they are ordering 175% overfill for most requested items so there should be no back orders or delivery delays like there were this year. They also indicated that they’re doing a major overhaul of their website for an improved online shopping experience. If you have any concerns or feedback (general or specific), please send them to lchs@lumenchristak.com and I’ll make sure those are shared with them. They’ll get a second shot at our business for 2019-20 but if difficulties persist, we’ll look for a second vendor for 2020-21.

Still have share hours to complete? Two good opportunities remain:

National Honor Society Tutoring
Don’t forget – the National Honor Society has free after school tutoring every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30p. NHS members encourage any students with homework questions or who need help with math or writing assignments to stop in for additional help. This tutoring is offered in addition to what is available on Mondays in the Library.
