Principal’s Update:
Based on the responses I received from our students on Tuesday, our Lumen families enjoyed the time off and the beautiful weather over the Labor Day weekend. I know the Seniors and Juniors appreciated the opportunity to go to the Alaska State Fair on the sunny Friday before the weekend started. Many thanks to Jessica Lirette, Gerianne Thorsness, Liz Loeffler, and Sandra Methonen who volunteered to drive our students up to Palmer and back. Thank you all!
The Varsity and Junior High soccer teams continue to work hard at practice and games, with the Varsity team on the road this week to Healy for the Tri-Valley Tournament. Girls volleyball and junior high basketball seasons start soon. Go Archangels!
Please encourage your students to go out this weekend and make one last push to sell their Gold Cards. Money and unsold cards are due back to the school office on Monday, September 12th. Gift cards and other prizes will be awarded to the class/grade and students who sell the most cards, so please make a final effort over the next few days to support this important fundraising event for our school.
On the topic of fundraisers, please also remember that this Sunday’s second collection is the Catholic Schools Special Collection at all the parish Masses in the Archdiocese. All funds collected go directly to support Lumen Christi, SEAS, and the other Catholic schools in the area.
Finally, a personal appeal to parents and students to volunteer to man a table and answer questions about Lumen Christi at the St. Benedict’s Festival of Ministries during the weekend of Sept 17-18. You can sign up at http://signup.com/go/RjJb7Y. We need to fill a few more slots after the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. This is a great way for parents to earn at least one Share Hour and students to earn at least one community service hour. Students should be in uniform. As a ministry of St. Benedict’s, Lumen receives many blessings from the parish; it is critical that we represent and speak proudly about our school at this event. I hope you can help!
Blessings,
Principal Brian Ross

Lumen Christi parents volunteer to keep the Archangel Attic open later on the 1st Friday of each month. Junior High Basketball: The JH basketball season starts on October 3rd. University of Portland Visit: A representative from the University of Portland will visit Lumen Christi on October 10th at 2pm in Mrs. Brewer’s classroom. All interested students and parents are welcome to join.
Lumen Arch Cards: Arch Cards are still available for sale in the front office. Adult cards are $65 each, student cards are $25 each. Here are examples of how this card can save you money:
- If your child plays HS basketball and HS volleyball it will cost about $125 to watch home games and tournaments. An Arch card would save you approximately $60.
- If your child plays HS volleyball only, you would spend about same at the door as the cost of an arch card but have the convenience of the card to get you in rather than needing cash at the door.
- If your child plays HS basketball, you would save approximately $10 with the purchase of an Arch Card.
- Student cards are $25 each and your student will just about break even if they attended most games for both of Lumen’s tournaments (volleyball and basketball) and then they would get most other games of the season free.
Scholarships: College scholarship information is available outside Mrs. Brewer’s classrooms. Students and parents are encouraged to check it often.
Free Gift: We have Lumen Christi window stickers for all families in the front office. Please stop by the office to pick up yours. This is a great way to promote our school.

Parent Share Hours: Each family is a member of the PVO and has 40 parent share hours to complete (20 hours for single head of household) each year. At least 50{d4876d85bca45a190b33d6c696456a399841af28eb325342d1f9ba09483f3a19} of those volunteer hours need to be conducted on fundraising efforts such as the Gala, Concessions, the Archangel Attic, and etc. Parent share hours help bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost to educate each child…keeping our tuition as low as possible.
