Wednesday, September 2nd Lunch: Next Wednesday, September 2nd the school will be having lunch in the school rather than at the Parish Hall due to a funeral. Since we have limited microwaves in the school, please consider sending a cold lunch on this day. Also, Student Government will not be providing lunch on this day.
PVO President and Officers Needed: We are still looking for a PVO President and Vice President. Jessica Lirette will be our PVO secretary. Our goal is to have a wonderful team of three Lumen parents to collaborate and lead our PVO. Please prayerfully consider the positions of PVO president and vice-president and let Mr. Harmon or Mrs. Estes know if you are interested or if you have any questions.
New School Board Members: Lumen Christi has opened nominations for interested persons willing to serve on the Lumen Christi School Board. Lumen Christi will elect 3 new members to the School Board. Each new member will serve a 3 year term. Serving on the School Board will meet your annual family share-hour requirement. If interested, please contact the front office for an application.
Fair Field Trip: The junior and senior classes will go on the annual trip to the Alaska State Fair with Mr. Harmon on Friday, September 4th. If your child is going to the fair and you are interested in helping drive, please let Mrs. Estes know.
A Message from the Yearbook Team: To all SENIORS: Senior photos need to be planned and taken! The weather is gorgeous and that means great photo-taking opportunities. Please have your Senior photos taken between now until October 15th. After that deadline we will put your regular school photo in the Senior page of Yearbook. Please submit your photo to Mrs. Carlson either via e-mail or on a USB-stick. If you don’t know of any photographer, please check out Fitzgerald Photography http://fitzgeraldphotos.com/
JH Basketball: JH basketball begins on September 28th. Each player will need to have a current sports physical on file, sports paperwork, and the $50 sports fee paid. To access the sports paperwork click the link below or you may stop by the office and pick up the paperwork: http://staging.lumenchristiak.com/students/sports/ If your student played JH soccer, they do not need to fill out the sports paperwork again, it is valid for the remaining school year.
High School Girls Volleyball: HS girls volleyball begins on September 16th. Each player will need to have a current sports physical on file, sports paperwork, and the $100 sports fee paid. To access the sports paperwork click the link below or you may stop by the office and pick up the paperwork: http://staging.lumenchristiak.com/students/sports/ If your student played HS soccer, they do not need to fill out the sports paperwork again, it is valid for the remaining school year.
1st Friday Archangel Attic Volunteers: For those of you who do not know, the Archangel Attic (the thrift store) which located next to St. Benedict’s is run by a wonderful group of volunteers and the proceeds of the Archangel Attic support Lumen Christi. In efforts to help, on the 1st Friday of each month (along with a second Friday), Lumen parents keep the Archangel open later to help increase sales. Right now we have parents who are committed to working these hours for the school year but we still have some openings. Please consider helping and you will be paired with an experienced Archangel volunteer to show you the ropes. Here is the link to the sign-up sheet: http://vols.pt/9eD1Kj This is of course a great way to get your parent share hours!!
Gala Decoration Committee: This year’s Gala theme is “Through the Looking Glass”, a Mad Hatter theme. The decoration committee is looking for donations of tea pots, tea cups and saucers, and colored pitchers for table decorations. If you are doing some house cleaning or garage sale shopping we would appreciate any donations. You may drop off items at the school and thanks in advance for your help.
World Youth Day: We are just under a year until our WYD pilgrimage to Poland.
Normally we have a large amount of pilgrims register the fall before the pilgrimage. This year our travel company is pushing us to finalize registrations sooner. With this in mind I wanted to share our status so you can share the information with your parishes.
- We have a few guaranteed spaces left. Those who register quickly and get these spaces will be set.
- After these spaces are filled, we will need to go to the tour company for each request and see if they can acquire space.
- Once the tour company is no longer able to get people acquire space, then we will start a waiting list in case any of our pilgrims end up cancelling.
Please contact Bob McMorrow for more information at St. Benedict’s Parish for more information.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School Auction: Our 32nd Annual Auction “Let the Good Times Roll” is Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Anchorage Marriott Downtown starting at 5:00 pm. Tickets to attend the event are available at the auction office inside the school. We are looking for donations of new items, basket items, and artwork.
Donations can be dropped off at the school or picked up at your convenience.
We also have advertising space available for our purchase in our auction booklet.
Thank you for your continued support of Catholic education.
NEW School Fundraiser-Scrip: We have a wonderful opportunity for Lumen Christi to fundraise money year round! The program is called Scrip. Good news: It’s really simple!
The Basics of a Scrip Program
- You buy retail gift cards through Lumen Scrip program at face value.
- Cards can be purchased online (Presto Pay) or through the coordinator.
- Choose from nearly 400 national retail stores where you already shop. (Attached is an alphabetical list of retailers)
- Your organization buys the gift cards at 1-13{d4876d85bca45a190b33d6c696456a399841af28eb325342d1f9ba09483f3a19} less than face value (varies by retailer).
- The difference between face value and what you or your organization pays = your organization’s earnings.
- Your fundraising has begun!
Here’s an Example:
Mrs. Smith needs some gardening supplies, so she buys a $100 The Home Depot® gift card for $100 through her son’s school scrip fundraiser.
Cha-ching! She just earned $4 for the school because The Home Depot gift cards are available from Great Lakes Scrip Center at 4{d4876d85bca45a190b33d6c696456a399841af28eb325342d1f9ba09483f3a19} less than
face value. When Mrs. Smith checks out at The Home Depot, she pays with her The Home Depot gift card instead of using a credit or debit
card! She will do the same thing when she needs cleaning supplies at Target®, and earn $2.50 just by using a $100 Target GiftCard to pay
for her purchases.
All we need the Lumen families to do is:
1) Go to the Scrip Website: https://www.shopwithscrip.com/
2) Setup and account using Lumen Family Enrollment Code: B968B67E44853
3) Start Shopping for gift cards to the stores we already shop at!
