Principal’s Update:
Did you know that Lumen Christi High School started out in 1996 over off Fireweed Lane with 33 students (grades 7-10), four teachers, a secretary, and a teaching principal? This is such a neat piece of our history and heritage! We have come a long way since the humble beginnings of the early days!
Did you know that the SportsLeader Virtue of the Week is “DEDICATION”? Dedication is the strength to be firm in your direction and purpose. I love that SportsLeader connects us to videos that highlight the week’s virtue. This week’s video can be found here: https://www.sportsleader.org/video/thank-you-mom. I hope you enjoy the message about being dedicated to our life’s purpose. And thank you to all the dedicated Moms out there!
Would you or your student like to get a simple, yet powerful, daily Gospel reflection email from SportsLeader? You don’t have to be an athlete! Subscribe here: https://www.catholicathletes.com/subscribe-1/.
Good luck to our Varsity Soccer team competing in the Tri-Valley Kickoff Tournament in Healy this week. And we look forward to Homecoming Spirit Week next week and a weekend of activities, from the bonfire on the 14th, to the Homecoming dance on the 15th, to St. Benedict’s Festival of Ministries on the 15th and 16th. We hope our parents and students are willing to man our Lumen Christi table after Saturday and Sunday Masses and share with the St. Benedict’s parishioners all the wonderful things about our school!

Principal’s Update
Our school year is off to a fantastic start! With nearly 20 new students in the school, we are settling in nicely to our daily routine. We start the day in student led prayer and end the day cleaning our classrooms and saying the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. As a school community, we celebrated a Mass of the Holy Spirit during the first week back at school with Archbishop Etienne and brought the “Light of Christ” into our building. The Archbishop blessed all our students, our classrooms, the science lab, and our gym as well. This weekend, our Class of 2019 will go on an overnight Senior Retreat at St. Therese’s camp to reflect on being servant leaders in our school and our community. Next week, after a rest on Labor Day, our varsity soccer team will head to Healy, Alaska, to participate in the Tri-Valley Tournament against Susitna Valley, Nenana, and other Parks Highway teams. We wish them the best of luck on their first, and only, travel trip of the season. Our parish school is a very busy, and blessed, place to grow in body, mind, and spirit!

If you’ve not yet set up your PowerSchool account, please send an email to Mrs. Gore at lchs@lumenchristiak.org and include the following information: Parent First Name, Last Name, Preferred email. Remind.com
Over the next week, Ms. Gore will be populating “Remind,” LCHS’s online remind system. If you’re not familiar with Remind, think of it as Twitter* – brief, succinct one liners with important information that needs to be delivered immediately: emergency or weather related school closure info, last minute requests for help, etc. Set up will automatically default to the email account you have on file with the office. If you prefer to have Remind messages sent via text, please send your preferred phone number to Ms. Gore no later than Thursday, Sept 6th, 3p. If you wish to be removed from the Remind system, please let Ms. Gore know that as well.

Consider buying gift cards from hundreds of popular retailers to use as gifts, or pay for your everyday purchases using gift cards instead of cash or credit cards. Place your order online at www.shopwithscrip.com or fill out the attached order form and return it to the office. Rebates vary and are listed next to the name of each retailer. The higher the rebate, the more money that comes back to the school. If you’re setting up an account on shopwithscrip.com for the first time, Lumen’s enrollment code is: B968B67E44853

From the Principal:
What a busy and exciting week! From oral presentations on research papers in Dr. Carlson’s class to dissection of frogs in Mrs. Craig’s class, we had a lot going in our Lumen hallways! And that doesn’t even count the evening activities as well. Congratulations to Jaime Martin and Julianne Estes from the Class of 2019 and Nathan Goodwin, Kirstin Marshall, and Jeannie McConnell from the Class of 2020 who received the sacrament of Confirmation and the gift of the Holy Spirit at a beautiful ceremony at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Tuesday! Awesome job, Confirmandi!
On Wednesday and Thursday, we said goodbye and good luck to our Class of 2018 graduates at the Baccalaureate Mass and the Graduation Commencement Ceremonies. We passed the Light of Christ to Shon Nagel and Megan Flaherty from the Class of 2019 at Baccalaureate. At Graduation, Class of 2018 graduate Kaare Helgesen received the UA Scholars award and gave the Salutatorian address, while Maeve Bakic provided words of wisdom to her fellow graduates and the audience as the Valedictorian. Both nights were very special and a huge thank you to Mrs. Liz Loeffler, Ms. Debbie Brewer, Mrs. Jessica Estes, and to all the parents and students who made these two events happen. Thank you!
All in all, it was a busy, but wonderful, week to be an Archangel. I am constantly amazed by the amount of cool things we have going on in a school of 70 students. Next week brings our last full week of school before finals. We will have a bit of good, clean fun starting at 1pm Monday with our Field Day, and we hope some of you will join us for a special screening of the movie “Paul, Apostle of Christ” on Tuesday evening (details below). Finally, Monday is the also the last day for parents to provide us feedback through the AdvancED survey (link below). We hope you will be willing to take 10 minutes or so to let us know how we are doing as a school community.
Have a great rest of your weekend! And God bless you!
