They’ve been doing this for almost 10 years and it’s greatly appreciated by the community. (They get calls at the store every year about how much people love it.) They’re looking for volunteers who can help distribute flags this year – if you can, please join them on July 3rd at 7a in the True Value parking lot – coffee, hot chocolate & treats provided! For more information, call Shannon Barry (Lumen graduate, class of ‘05) at True Value, 248-9211.

Field Day 2019:
A separate email went out on Tuesday to announce this – but in case you missed it….Friday, May 17th we’ll have Field Day after school from 12:30 – 2p. While this is a deviation from our normal Friday dismissal time of 12:30, we hope that as many students as possible will stay and participate. We want this to be a fun way to close out the year and give everyone a chance to blow off steam before finals start on Monday. If you and/or your student have other obligations that day we would ask that you alert us that they will be leaving at 12:30, otherwise we’ll assume they will be staying until 2p. CHANGE: This will be a casual day! No need to come in uniform with a change of clothes!! Just send your student(s) with lunch and cash (if you want) as we’ll be selling off also selling off the last of our concession snacks. Highlight of Field Day? The First Annual “Staff vs. Students” Kick Ball game! Who would you put your money on?!
West Point Anyone?
What do an astronaut, poet, president and former head of the CIA/current US Secretary of State* all have in common? They’re all graduates of the United States Military Academy, also known as West Point. Curious to know more? Then head over to the BP Energy Center on Saturday, May 11th, at 1p where a representative will talking with interested students and their families. (*Buzz Aldrin, Edgar Allen Poe, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mike Pompeo.)

They’ll get a second shot at our business for 2019-20 but if difficulties persist, we’ll look for a second vendor for 2020-21.

URGENT REQUEST – PROM HELP NEEDED:
Schedules got a little wonky for Saturday morning prom set up, but we’ve been given the all-clear to decorate Viking Hall early – as in TOMORROW (Friday) from 10a-2p. We know it’s not a convenient time for working families, but Mrs. Goodwin and Student Government representatives could use some help if you’re at all able. If you have questions or can help for even part of the time, please call Mrs. Goodwin at 317-0690.
We anticipate set up being completed on Friday, but if for any reason we need additional help, a “Remind” message will be sent out for help on Saturday morning. (Note that we could still use some clean up help on Saturday evening at 11p!) Viking Hall is located at 8141 Briarwood Street.
Principal’s Update:
I write this update to you from the “Windy City” of Chicago, where Mrs. Loeffler and I are attending the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) annual conference. Over 9,000 educators from Catholic schools around the world are here to learn and share best practices in Catholic education. We’ve participated in beautiful liturgies and attended informational workshops on campus ministry, marketing and enrollment, servant leadership, and academic instruction. We will share what we’ve learned with our fellow faculty upon our return Friday.
Congratulations to Jack Schroder (9th grade) and Tate Hart (8th grade) who led efforts to collect 350 pairs of used shoes from the school, St. Benedicts and Holy Cross Parish as part of their Holy Cross Confirmation Service Project. “Kicks for Kids,” the charity recipient was thrilled with their efforts. Thanks to the many students who brought their shoes in for donation!
Finally, a well done to the dozen junior and senior high students who put on a dramatic and emotional Passion Play and Reflection for our school on April 15th and for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School students on April 18th. We got so much positive feedback that we look forward to making this an annual tradition!
Have a great weekend!

This week’s Sportsleader Virtue is GENEROSITY – The strength to go beyond the call of duty. It is so much easier to just do the bare minimum, to do only what others ask me to do.

Ms. Rachael Androski, our art teacher for next year was by to do a presentation for budding Archangel artists. Drawing on inspiration from Notre Dame Cathedral’s Rose Window (which was spared in the recent fire), Mrs. Androski had students complete their own unique panel which was then assembled on the window in the Front Office. Stop by to admire their amazing work, or check out our Facebook page where pictures have also been posted!

National Honor Society Tutoring

NHS members encourage any students with homework questions or who need help with math or writing assignments to stop in for additional help. This tutoring is offered in addition to what is available on Mondays in the Library.
