How would you like to earn money for Lumen without donating your precious time? Sound Good? Please join us on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:30pm in the Library to learn about Scrip. It’s a way for Lumen to earn money while you shop from your favorite stores. Scrip has been around for over 20 years and depending on participation from Lumen families and friends, we could earn thousands of dollars for our school!! Please come learn more about this great opportunity. There will be refreshments and students will earn a dress down day if their parent(s) attend. We look forward to seeing you there.
November 19th Lunch Announcement: Next Thursday, November 19th, our students will not be able to have lunch in the parish hall due to a parish event. Please plan to send a cold lunch to school with your child on this day. Student Government will be unable to serve lunch that day so every student needs to bring a lunch. The school does not have enough microwaves to accommodate everyone so cold lunches will be most helpful.
November 25th Holiday Schedule: Please remember that we have a modified schedule Thanksgiving week (November 23-27). Wednesday is a Friday B Mass schedule (Mass with periods 4, 5, lunch, and 6) with a 12:35 PM dismissal. Teachers will be at the school until 2:30 PM. If you cannot pick up your students until 2:30 PM, they may stay at the school and study in the library. However, we respectfully ask that all students are picked up by 2:30 PM so the faculty and staff can leave on time to prepare and enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday time. There is no school on Thursday, November 26 or Friday, November 27.
Gala Request: Theresa Brown is requesting thin boxes such as the ones you see in the below picture. She is creating some decorations for the Gala and needs lots of them. They can be brought to Lumen Christi’s office.
Borealis Regional Volleyball Tournament: This year’s Borealis Regional Volleyball tournament will be held here at Lumen Christi High School. It will be hosted by Holy Rosary. Lumen families can help earn money for the school by running the concession stand. Please click on the link and sign up if you and/or your student are available to work the concession stand. http://vols.pt/jnHgPN
Mat-Su DAV Gun Show: Help is still needed for this event…we are especially looking for parking attendants. We also still need help for set-up on Friday, November 27th and clean-up on Sunday, November 29th. Please click on the link below for latest details on the sign-up sheet. The Gun Show is hosted and put on by the Mat-Su DAV. Lumen Christi parents and students volunteer at the event by running concessions, collecting entrance fees, helping vendors set-up on Friday, November 27th, and help take down and clean up after the event is over. Here is the link to the sign up sheet: http://vols.pt/tukRuw
High School Basketball: Practice begins on December 2nd. Boys will practice from 3-5pm and girls will practice from 5-7pm. Please visit our website at http://staging.lumenchristiak.com/students/sports/ to get the necessary paperwork and game schedules. If your student has played soccer or volleyball earlier this year, you will not need to fill out the ASAA paperwork again. There is a $100 basketball fee which can be paid at the office or online.

LUMENary Drive: Everyone should have received information in the mail about our annual LUMENary Drive. As you read the information, you will see that your tuition only covers part of what it costs to educate your child. Our various fundraising events in addition to the LUMENary drive, help to fill the gap. In order for the LUMENary drive to be successful, everyone’s participation is important, no matter what size of your donation.
Winter Weather Reminder: Just a reminder that as winter approaches, so does the possibility for school closures. If the Anchorage School District (ASD) cancels or delays the start of school, so does Lumen Christi. Sometimes ASD will close some schools for weather conditions but not all schools, please listen to the radio or check ASD’s website. If Sand Lake and/or Dimond cancel or delay the start time of school, so will Lumen Christi.
