Principal’s Update: What a great week! We thank God for covering his creation with a fresh, beautiful blanket of snow and for giving our students an unexpected break from school on Wednesday! As we continue our Lenten resolutions of prayer, sacrifice, and almsgiving, we will walk and remember the Stations of the Cross on the next two Fridays at 9am in the gym. In addition, our Big A and Little A students are conducting an Easter Basket drive for children from the Clare House and Student Government is supporting the Knights of Columbus from St. Benedict Parish in their “40 Cans for Lent” canned food drive. If your son or daughter asks you to go to the store to buy Easter Basket materials or canned food, you can know that he or she is actively participating in Lenten almsgiving. We appreciate your support in these events.
Finally, as you walk through school, you may notice “CRIME SCENE” tape blocking certain locations in the building. DO NOT BE ALARMED! The students from Ms. Brewer’s Forensics Science class are playing Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) and putting into practice all the techniques for evidence gathering and handling that they have learned this semester. Good luck in finding the culprit!
JH Testing Days: JH testing will take place on April 5th, during 4th and 5th period. Please have your child arrive to school on time and eat a good breakfast. This year, we will be administering the PSAT 8/9 test instead of the Terra Nova test. You can learn more about the PSAT 8/9 at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9.

What a wonderful family we have here at Lumen and thank you again to everyone who made this event possible!
On Monday, we recognized the hard work, commitment, and accomplishments of our academic honor roll students. Congratulations to all our award recipients! We also presented Nathan Marshall (Class of 2018) with the “…And Then Some” Award. This award is given to that student, junior or senior high, who goes above and beyond that expected of Lumen students. A selfless servant, Nathan exemplifies daily our Core Values of Faith, Family, and Excellence. He is quick to volunteer to serve at Mass, play music at the State of the School and the Gala, and proudly represents Lumen in everything he does. Well done Nathan!
We again wish both the boys and girls basketball teams success as they compete in Homer this week for Regions. Go Archangels!
I’ll close my update with two requests:
- At the Gala, we raised $8000 towards our “Fund a Project,” an electronic keypad access control system and security camera for our front door. This is fantastic! We are within $1100 of our goal. Would anyone be willing to donate $20, $50, $100, or even more to help get us there? Contact Mrs. Estes if you can help.
- I once again encourage parents to complete the AdvancED annual parent survey at: https://goo.gl/R0JdWC. To date, about 40{d4876d85bca45a190b33d6c696456a399841af28eb325342d1f9ba09483f3a19} of our families have completed the survey. Our goal is 80{d4876d85bca45a190b33d6c696456a399841af28eb325342d1f9ba09483f3a19}. We look forward to your feedback on our school. Thanks to those who have already filled it out!
God Bless You!

- Please join our Ladies prayer group each Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Library. This is a great time of prayer and fellowship.
- Many students have already signed up to volunteer at St. Elizabeth’s school on Fridays after school until 2:30 p.m. You can still make the most of Friday afternoon service time because there is plenty of room for more volunteers! Students can sign up on the hall bulletin board here at Lumen. Parents are also welcome to email Liz @ eloeffler@lumenchristiak.org or call Lumen’s main office for parent sign up!

We also hope you will take the time if waiting to complete our annual online survey for AdvancED accreditation. Several computers will be available in Dr. Carlson’s room (Rm 110) while you wait to talk with teachers or you can go to the survey here: https://goo.gl/R0JdWC. This is the parent survey; your son or daughter will be asked to complete a similar survey for students. These surveys are very important not only for our accreditation, but also for our own continuous improvement as a school. For the first time, we have been able to add Catholic identity questions to the survey. We hope you will provide us this valuable feedback by March 1st. Thank you again!
In closing, a special shout-out to the hardworking volunteers busy preparing for our Gala next week. The library has been a beehive of activity and we truly appreciate your efforts. Thank you for your time and talent! Go Archangels!
