Dear Lumen Family:
The semester is drawing to a close. In a few short days, final exams will be upon the students. As the semester ends, please keep the following announcements in mind.
Finals Week – December 16-18
The schedule for the week of finals is as follows:

Dismissal for the day at 11:15 AM
- Wednesday: Finals for periods 3 and 4
Dismissal for the day at 11:15 AM

Looking for 2 Volunteer Interviewers for 12/18, 9:45 – 11:15 a.m.
As part of Mrs. Carlson’s Speech class, her students learn how to write a resume, cover letter, and they also go through a job interview. For that interview part, Mrs. Carlson is looking for two adults who have experience in conducting hiring interviews. The interviews will last about 10-15 minutes and entail asking general interview questions and a brief evaluation of the candidates. You don’t have to prepare anything, you will receive the general interview questions beforehand. The objective is to have students walk away with a simulated experience of looking and interviewing for a job that is as real as possible to “the real world”. This will count toward your ‘share hours’. Thank you.
If you can help out, please contact Mrs. Carlson via e-mail:
acarlson [at] lumenchristiak.com
Bad Weather
With the ice and rain scheduled to continue for a few more days, please make sure you listen to the radio and/or check the Anchorage School District (ASD) website in the mornings. Lumen is located near Dimond High School so if Dimond is cancelled and/or on a delayed start, so is Lumen. Also, if school at Lumen is cancelled for the day, so are all Lumen after school activities, unless you are notified to the contrary.
Parish Help
We need helpers to assist in removing the altar tile at St. Benedict’s on Sunday, December 14 after the 12:15 PM Mass. This work is eligible for share hours (and is mostly hauling tile out to the dump trailer — and shouldn’t take that long, maybe an hour or so). Please let us know if you can help by calling the front office at (907) 245-9231.
Semester 2 Schedule Changes
Students who need to make changes in their Semester 2 schedule should contact Mrs. Brewer (dbrewer@lumenchristiak.org) before Friday, December 12.
Art Class and Jazz Band
Any student who will be joining or dropping either art class or jazz band needs to notify Mrs. Brewer (dbrewer@lumenchristiak.org) before Friday, December 12. Jazz band has a fee of $15 per session. The art class fee is $250 per semester.

Student Government News
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and, since a few of the Lumen faculty and students have Type-1 or Type-2 diabetes, we had a dress down day today, November 26, to encourage and enhance the celebratory holiday mood. Students were invited to bring $3.00 and wear blue for Diabetes Awareness. All the proceeds from the dress down will be given to the Iacocca Family Foundation, which is an organization that funds innovative and promising research programs and projects that will hopefully lead to a cure for Type-1 diabetes.
Also, Student Government hosted a Junior High social on November 14t when students came to Mrs. Mespelli’s room to eat pizza, watch a movie, and hang out with friends. It was very successful! Thank you for all of your continued support.
Finally, A BIG THANK YOU to all of our students and parents who worked so hard and donated 1,156 boxes of stuffing to provide to the Thanksgiving Blessing at St. Patrick’s parish!!!
