Athletic Life at Lumen
At Lumen Christi, students have numerous opportunities to get involved with sports at both the Junior High and High School level. We’re extremely proud of our athletic program and standing as a Division 2A school within the Alaska Schools Activities Association (ASAA). Across the sport spectrum, our coaches strive to cultivate a culture of sportsmanship incorporating preparation, skill development, leadership and teamwork. Nearly 75% of our students participate in at least one sport throughout the year.
Like everything at Lumen, our approach to sports emphasizes our Core Values of Faith, Family, and Excellence. Through the use of the Sports Leader “Virtue Equals Strength” sports ministry program, we are committed to whole person development and encourage every athlete to grow in mind, body, and spirit. Our teams pray together, attend Mass together, and say the Rosary together during the season. In other words, at Lumen, faith formation extends beyond the classroom and onto the court and athletic fields.

In addition to the sports offered on campus, Lumen boasts a unique agreement with the Anchorage School District which allows our students to play sports at their zoned Public High School when a sport is not available at Lumen. Our Archangels have been spotted on the Dimond High School football fields and in the Dimond pool; Service High School cross country ski trails; the West High hockey rinks, and more.
