Classes: Forensics, Chemistry, Biology, Geometry
I have over 25 years of teaching experience and have been with Lumen Christi High School since its beginning in 1996. My study focus was biology and chemistry at Fort Lewis College in Colorado but I earned my teaching certificate from Alaska Pacific University. I’ve participated in and taught multiple professional development courses including curriculum design, educational technology, and online learning.
Teaching is a two-way activity involving both students and teacher and confirms my belief that I often learn more from my students than they do from me! Learning needs to be as experiential and relevant as possible in a structured and safe environment. Lumen Christi provides this type of environment — allowing both teachers and students to grow and develop to their full potential.
My other Lumen Christi “duties” include being the senior advisor, PowerSchool expert, educational technology coordinator and LCHS historian. In addition to teaching, I am also the Dean of Academic Affairs working with students on their course load, graduation progress, internships, and college applications.
In the past, I’ve enjoyed teaching at a forensic science camp sponsored by F.O.A.S.T., (Fraternal Order of Alaska State Troopers), serving on the D.A.R.E. Alaska (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Board of Directors as educational advisor, and conducting research at UAA as part of the Murdock Partners in Science Program. I currently serve on the AdvancED Alaska Advisory Board and am a clinical supervisor of new teachers for Western Governor’s University.
