Principal
A lifelong Alaskan, I was born and raised here in Anchorage. My early Catholic faith was formed through my parents and at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School through 8th grade. I remained active in St. Elizabeth’s youth programs while attending Robert Service High School. After graduating from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for over 21 years. My two decades of military service included duties as an infantry leader, two combat deployments to Iraq, and a three year overseas tour with my family in Okinawa, Japan. While on active duty, I also taught courses in military history, leadership, and planning for over seven years at the undergraduate and graduate school level.
My family and I moved back to Alaska following my retirement in 2015. While completing requirements for my Alaska state teaching certificate, I taught US history and government classes at Romig Middle and Bartlett High. I also served as the assistant rifle coach at Bartlett. My wife, Tracy, and I have been married for over 24 years and have two sons and a daughter. Both of my sons are active duty military, while our youngest child, Emily, is a student here at Lumen.
My hobbies are anything that allows our family to spend time together outdoors. In addition to being Principal, I teach courses on International Affairs, US Government, Economics and Catholic Literature here at Lumen.
