LUMENary Drive:
Our LUMENary Drive continues to plug along and donations continue to come in which is a joy! We give thanks for certain to each and every donor who has contributed. To date, 157 individuals and/or families have contributed $65,200. Of those donors, 38 are Lumen families who combined have contributed $18,190. Add in friends and family of Lumen families, and we add another $9,115 to that amount for a total of $27,305, or 42% of total giving. Of note are recent donations that have come in as a result of our “5 days for 5 letters’ student letter writing campaign, $1,050 has come in from 7 donors, thanks to letters from 3 particular students (who obviously wrote very persuasive letters!) As a reminder, we would encourage every family to give or help raise $500, tho truly any amount is welcome and deeply appreciated.
Archangel Sports:
It’s a busy week in High School Basketball with both teams having played Birchwood Warriors on Tuesday (both teams victorious); Redington Huskies (Wasilla) on Wednesday (again, both teams victorious!) Tonight/Thursday the girls take on Grace JV out in Wasilla, while the boys are in Anchor Point up against the Nikolaevsk Warriors on Friday. Saturday both the boys and girls take on the Ninilchik Wolverines. Eight games, 4 towns and many, many miles. Way to stay strong, Archangels. Next up (barring any last minute game additions) will be Regionals March 18-20; followed by State on April 1-3rd. Details on Regionals & State to follow!
Junior High skill building ends this week. Despite not having any teams to play actual games against, there’s the chance we will have a few scrimmages after Spring Break. Stay tuned for details, in the meantime, Jr. High Teams – you’ve been awesome! It’s been great to see you come together and learn plays and develop skills.
Our Archangel Rifle Team was in full on practice mode this week, sharp shooting and honing skills. Their next match will be on March 26th, stay tuned for details.
Starting soon: soccer & track & field! Details to follow after Spring Break
Front Office News:
2nd Reminder: Spring Break Travel/COVID Protocols
We know many families will be traveling over Spring Break. Although there have been changes in the State enforcement of travel protocols, Lumen is still following them and we ask that families do too. We want to keep our staff and students healthy and safe after spring break so that we can all finish the year strong. Therefore, if you travel out of state or the country:
-
You and your student(s) should be tested at your vacation destination within 3 days of returning to Anchorage (and getting a negative test result); OR
-
You should be tested at the airport when you arrive in Anchorage (free for Alaska residents, this test result must be negative); AND
-
You should quarantine at home for 5 days (the day you return is Day 0), watching for any signs/symptoms of illness. If you and your student(s) have a negative test, have self quarantined for five days, then your students are free to return to school on Day 6.
There are two exceptions to this rule:
-
Anyone who has had a confirmed case of COVID within the last 90 days does not have to test, nor quarantine after travel.
-
Anyone who is fully vaccinated (fully-vaccinated is defined as more than two weeks following receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, or more than two weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine) should have a test but does not have to quarantine.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
The spring National Honor Society induction ceremony will be held on Thursday March 25th 6-7pm in the library. Come and celebrate Lumen’s academic excellence – all are welcome to attend.
Archangel Attic Needs
Do you have plans for Saturday, March 13th from 1p-4p? No? Well, now you do! We need one helper at the attic – please sign up here: https://signup.com/go/sicntGk if you can help! Every dollar that comes in the door at the Attic comes straight back to Lumen to offset tuition. So the more the Attic is open and successful, the more money that comes back to Lumen, the lower the tuition remains for all students.
Also….If you’ve bubble wrap or a stack of old newspapers that you were going to take to recycle – don’t! Please drop those at the Archangel Attic for use in wrapping fragile items that get purchased. Thanks a bunch.
2021-22
Hard to believe, but next year is already on our minds. Below you’ll find a copy of our 2021-22 School Calendar. This will also be posted on our website under “Calendars” and hard copies available in the Front Office as well.
Have an amazing Spring Break….If you’re going anywhere warm, send sunshine home. I’m ready for snow to be done and spring to arrive! See you on the 15th!
