From the Principal:
At the State of the School address on January 29th, I ended the presentation with a “30-Day Challenge.” As we approach the end of February, I renew the challenge to do the following:
-Invite a prospective family to our Open Houses on March 7 and April 5th. We have formal invites in the front office, but you can share the invite on Facebook or encourage prospective families to look at the invite on our website.
-Support the LUMENARY Drive. We are currently at $26,000 towards our goal of $60,000. This annual fund drive reduces our tuition by $800 per student. Please prayerfully consider donating today and encourage friends, families, and co-workers to do the same.
-Sign up to work a shift at the Attic. Thanks to the hard work of our PVO, we have filled many Fridays with volunteers. This has helped us raise an additional $3500 for our school! Sign up for the 5-7pm shift and make it a “date night” with your significant other! (just be sure to go out to dinner or a movie afterward to make it official…)
-Submit a positive review of the school online on Great Schools, K12 Niche, Private School Review, and Google. These websites get large numbers of hits on a daily basis as prospective families look for private school opportunities, so the more positive reviews on our school, the better! We have at least three new reviews already (thanks you parents!). Get yours submitted by Wed, Feb 28th and be entered to win a $50 gift card!

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Parade on Saturday, either as a participant or spectator! Dress warm! The temps are predicted to be in the low 20s with snow!
Announcements:
Tomorrow!! Lenten Soup Lunch: Teachers starting their annual Lenten Soup Lunch tomorrow. A meatless soup and a roll for $2.00. Extra rolls are 50 cents each. All proceeds will be donated to the H20 Water Project.
On Saturday!! Fur Rondy Parade: As an added challenge, the class/grade with the highest percentage of students participating will get a pizza party!
- Who: ALL AVAILABLE LUMEN FAMILIES! Let’s show our Archangel Spirit! Be sure to dress warm (hat, gloves, and boots) and wear your Lumen sweatshirt and sweatpants or your sports team warmup on the outside to show your Lumen pride!
- What: 2018 Fur Rondezvous (“Fur Rondy”) Grand Parade. We will be towing a snowmachine trailer behind Mr. Bauzon’s pick-up truck. Mr. Aaron Hersh (Ben, Class of 2022) has been kind enough to drive as he has experience driving the parade route.
- When: The parade starts at 10:30am on Saturday, but all walkers and riders need to be in the staging area no later than 9:45am!!!!
- Where: Our staging area is at the corner of 8th and C Streets downtown, near the Federal Bldgs and the Quality Suites Historic Downtown hotel. Google Maps is here: https://goo.gl/maps/8m7iMi4bLcT2
Some parking is available at the Geico pay parking lot across from the staging area. However, many roads will be blocked, so you may have to park elsewhere and walk to the staging area. No personal vehicles are allowed into the staging area, not even to drop people off! We will finish in the same location once the parade is over. This is where you will pick up your son or daughter if you are just dropping off and picking up.
- Why: Because we are LUMEN and we are PROUD OF OUR SCHOOL and we want to show the entire Anchorage community our pride!

If your child would like to play, please fill out the sports paperwork (you don’t need to fill it out if your student has played a sport this year already). There is also a $100 sports fee. Next Week!! Basketball Regions: Did you know that both the boys and girls high school basketball teams could place at the upcoming regional tournament and be invited to play in the state tournament in March? These students have done a great job this season, but to make this happen we need to be there to cheer them on! If you haven’t been to one of our basketball games, this is the year to come! We are going to try and do more “organized” cheering and encourage everyone to sit together at the games and join in. Your support can help these kids succeed this year! SO…here is how we can help!
Watch for the game schedules in the Lumen News!
-
Come to one or more games! Encourage your students to come!
-
This year Regionals will be AT LUMEN CHRISTI!
-
Join us in the stands and bring your families! Enjoy the game.
VERY IMPORTANT: Lets all sit together and cheer together!
We will provide cheer info at the games!!!!**
Our support can absolutely help our players!!!!
IF you can’t come, please keep these young people in our prayers! They have worked very hard and it would be a tremendous accomplishment to place at Regionals and play in the State tournament.
Gala Follow-up Meeting: Join us on February 27th at 7pm to discuss details of the Gala to wrap up this year’s event. Whether you attended the night of, volunteered, or chaired a committee for the Gala, your input is valuable to us. Please come share your thoughts and ideas on how the event went.
Parent Share Hours: Families were recently emailed a summary of the hours that they have recorded so far in the parent share hour book. You did not receive an email if you were done or almost done with your parent share hours. A lot of families helped at the Gala, please be sure to come in and record your hours or email Mrs. Estes details and she will record them for you. Please Note: The PVO section of this newsletter has listed opportunities for you to complete your share hours. We still need help for the remainder of the year at the Archangel Attic and Concessions/Gate. Also we are looking to fill important positions for next year, please prayerfully consider volunteering for one of them.
