PVO President and Vice President Needed: We are in dire need of a PVO President and Vice President who can work together as a team along with our PVO Secretary, Jessica Lirette. These roles are vital to the success of our school and its many events and fundraising activities. Each of these positions would receive “Auto-Earn” parent share hours. It’s a great way to get involved in what makes Lumen so special…it’s parents, alumni, teachers, staff, St. Benedict’s parish, and of course our amazing students. Without a successful PVO and its fundraising activities, tuition may have to increase…please prayerfully consider volunteering to be Lumen Christi’s PVO President or Vice President. Below are some responsibilities for these positions:
PVO President’s Role:
· Leads discussion on creating goals, fundraising events, and activities for the school year with input from other parents.
· Prepares and leads monthly PVO meetings.
· Attends school board meetings as the PVO representative.
· Supports and attends various school functions.
· Serve as a communication link between parents, faculty, staff, school board, parish, and the community.
PVO Vice-President’s Role:
Supports the President and the various functions within the PVO
Takes on the PVO President’s duties and roles in their absence.
Assumes the role of President once the current President’s term is over.
Community Service Opportunity: St. Benedict’s Fall Grounds Clean-up Day: Join the St. Benedict’s community by helping on the Fall Grounds Clean-up Day this Saturday, September 26th at 10am. They will be preparing the gardens and grounds for the winter. Parents can earn share hours while students can earn community service hours.
School Rush: Everyone should have received an invitation to sign up for School Rush, a new communication tool the office will start using very soon. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
Picture Day: School picture day will be on Tuesday, September 29th. We will start at 8:30am. Picture Retake day…to be announced.
New School Board Members: Lumen Christi has opened nominations for interested persons willing to serve on the Lumen Christi School Board. Lumen Christi will elect 3 new members to the School Board. Each new member will serve a 3 year term. Serving on the School Board will meet your annual family share-hour requirement. If interested, please contact the front office for an application.
1st PVO Meeting: Our first meeting of the year will be on September 29th at 6:30pm in the Library.
High School Retreat: Our annual high school retreat is coming up. It will be at St. Therese’s Camp on October 8th and 9th. Our Campus Minister, Mrs. Liz Loeffler has been working with the Senior class to plan this event. Informational packets were sent home on September 23rd and are due back by September 28th. Volunteers are needed so please see the packet for more details.
PSAT Testing: Grades 9th through 11th will be taking the PSAT on October 14th. The test will begin first thing in the morning so be sure to have your student well rested and on time to school that day.
2015 College & Career Fair: The 11th and 12th grade classes will go on a field trip to the College & Career Fair on Monday, October 19th.
Mat-Su DAV Gun Show: The Gun Show is hosted and put on by the Mat-Su DAV. Lumen Christi parents and students volunteer at the event by running concessions, collecting entrance fees, helping vendors set-up on Friday the 27th, and help take down and clean up after the event is over. We are in need of a parent to help coordinate volunteers for this event. Please contact the office if you are able to help with this event.
Lumen’s Annual Spiketacular Volleyball Tournament: High school volleyball season has begun and we are planning our annual Lumen Christi Spiketacular Tournament. Please look for the sign-up sheet to come out soon. We will be looking for volunteers to help with concession stand, collecting entrance fees, scorekeeping, and cooking meals for the teams. If you are interested in learning how to keep score for volleyball, please let the office know. During the volleyball season and Lumen’s tournament, you could earn share hours for keeping score.
A Message from the Yearbook Team: To all SENIORS: Senior photos need to be planned and taken! The weather is gorgeous and that means great photo-taking opportunities. Please have your Senior photos taken between now until October 15th. After that deadline we will put your regular school photo in the Senior page of Yearbook. Please submit your photo to Dr. Carlson either via e-mail or on a USB-stick. If you don’t know of any photographer, please check out Fitzgerald Photography http://fitzgeraldphotos.com/
JH Basketball: JH basketball begins on September 28th. Each player will need to have a current sports physical on file, sports paperwork, and the $50 sports fee paid. To access the sports paperwork click the link below or you may stop by the office and pick up the paperwork: http://staging.lumenchristiak.com/students/sports/ If your student played JH soccer, they do not need to fill out the sports paperwork again, it is valid for the remaining school year.
1st Friday Archangel Attic Volunteers: For those of you who do not know, the Archangel Attic (the thrift store) which located next to St. Benedict’s is run by a wonderful group of volunteers and the proceeds of the Archangel Attic support Lumen Christi. In efforts to help, on the 1st Friday of each month (along with a second Friday), Lumen parents keep the Archangel open later to help increase sales. Right now we have parents who are committed to working these hours for the school year but we still have some openings. Please consider helping and you will be paired with an experienced Archangel volunteer to show you the ropes. Here is the link to the sign-up sheet: http://vols.pt/9eD1Kj This is of course a great way to get your parent share hours!!
