Principal’s Report 01/16/2015
Dear Lumen Family:
I hope each of you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas break! It’s been a very busy first two weeks of school; however, I believe the students and teachers are finally settled in for the new semester. Please note the activities below…
Martin Luther King, Jr.: The school will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of this important national holiday.
Lumen Christi Gala: This fun filled evening will be on February 7, so mark your calendars. Tickets are on sale now…Individual tickets are $85, family tables of 8 are $600 and corporate tables are $1000. Come and spend a night celebrating and supporting Catholic education. You can call the school office at 245-9231 to purchase tickets. Help us make this the best Gala ever!
Memory Pages for Seniors: The yearbook team is working on the memory pages for the Senior Students. Memory pages are exclusive for Seniors and are not included in the regular purchase price of $60. We noticed that only a few parents bought this additional page and we are making a call to offer it for purchase until January 30. Please contact Antje Carlson at acarlson@lumenchristiak.org or drop by her classroom after school if you are interested in buying the $100 Memory Page.
Senior Photo: We also need to receive the Senior Photos. The final deadline for the submission is January 30. f we do not receive the Senior photo by January 30, we will put the regular school photo onto the Senior Page.
2nd Semester Class Changes: Today is the deadline for all 2nd Semester class change requests. Please submit requests to Mr. Harmon (jharmon@lumenchristiak.org).
Associated Builders and Contractors Craft Championships: Careers in the trades is a good career choice for some, and this is a very good opportunity for high school students and their parents to see craft in action. The competitors are ABS of Alaska Apprentices and they will be competing in many trades, such as carpentry, plumbing, hvac, sheet metal, and electrical. It is free of charge and we hope to see Lumen families at the event. The event is tomorrow (Saturday, January 17) from 8 AM – 1 PM at the American Fast Freight, 5025 Van Buren Street in Anchorage. Bring the family and watch the excitement build!
Music Lessons: We’ve received interested in students who may wish to learn how to play the piano or celtic/folk harp. Although we don’t currently offer these classes at Lumen, please contact Mr. Harmon at jharmon@lumenchristiak.org and he will provide you contact information for community members who instruct in these areas.
Knights of Columbus Prayer Event: There will be an international prayer service held on January 24, 2015 at the downtown cemetery. For more information, please contact Knight John Lopetrone at lptrnak@outlook.com .
PVO Help Wanted: PVO is looking for a few volunteers to take over some very important jobs. Please consider one of these positions…if you have additional questions, please contact Gail Grafton for more information.
- Gala Lead Procurement Caller: Shadow Mrs. Novcaski this year to learn Procurement and take over for next year’s Gala.
- PVO Vice-President: Shadow Gail Grafton and eventually take over as PVO President.

This could easily be done from home at whatever pace fits with their schedules. For more information, contact Ruth Marchetti at RMarchetti@lumenchristiak.org.
Lumen Christi Scarves: The Senior class is selling scarves to help fundraise for graduation. They are on sale for $25 each, please see Ms. Brewer if you’d like to purchase one.
Holy Rosary Drama: HRA’s production of “The School for Scandal” by Richard Brinsley Sheridan will be at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall on January 23 at noon and 7 PM. There is also a dinner show on January 24 at 6 PM and a regular show later in the evening at 7 PM. Ticket prices are $4 for students, $7 for general admission, and $25 for the dinner show. Please call the HRA at 276-5822 or e-mail diciero@hraak.com to RSVP.
Box Tops: Thank you for those who have turned in Box Tops! There is a collection box by the front office, so let keep turning them in.
Parent Share Hours: Have you updated your parent share hours lately? If not, feel free to stop by the office to enter your hours OR you may also email Mrs. Estes at lchs@lumenchristiak.org and she will gladly enter them for you. If you have any questions about your parent share hours, just give us a call.
Safe Environment Training and Background Checks: Each parent who volunteers at our school should take the time to complete the online safe environment training and complete the paperwork for a background check.
