Biography
I was born in Northampton, England but my father’s career as a geophysicist for major oil companies translated to my early years being spent overseas, predominantly in Singapore, Indonesia and Africa. My family came back to the U.S. (Houston, Texas) when I was in middle school, then moved to McLean, Virginia when my father went to work for the World Bank.
I attended Langley High School in McLean and participated in Soccer and Track and Field (400 meters, 400 meter hurdles and decathlon.) I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Bachelor’s in Exercise Physiology with a concentration on Athletic Training and Physical Therapy.
This is my fifth year as the Athletic Director at Lumen Christi High School. My wife and I have 3 children, one of whom is a Lumen graduate; the other two are currently enrolled. Our graduate was an athlete for the school (soccer, volleyball and basketball) and our other two students are just as involved. Sports dominates our lives! During the summer I’m a Tour Director for Premier Tours and love showing off the state of Alaska.
Brian Ross, Riflery
While I am best known as the Principal, I have a few years of experience in this sport. I shot air rifle for Service High School in the late 80s. I also competed at the NCAA Division I collegiate level in both air rifle and smallbore (.22 cal) for four years at the US Naval Academy, including serving as team captain in my senior year. I am also fiercely proud of my 21 years in the Marine Corps, where “Every Marine is a Rifleman.” My first job after retirement was as assistant coach for the Bartlett Golden Bears rifle team. My goal is to share my passion, experiences and knowledge about marksmanship with our athletes, all the while being safe and responsible.
The Lumen rifle team shoots in the air rifle “Sporter” category in the Orion National Air Rifle League, in which dozens of other rifle programs from around the nation compete virtually each year. We shoot on our home range in our gym, upload our scores to the Orion website, and compete against JROTC, 4-H, and other private air rifle clubs all over the country. We also compete in the Jordyn Durr Memorial Match at Service High School each fall, a Civilian Marksmanship Program-sanctioned event.
Yvette Tousignant, Junior High Soccer and Futsol
Born and raised in Anchorage, I started playing soccer in elementary school. Continuing through junior high, I advanced to playing on competitive teams as well as being a member of the varsity team for all four years at West High School. I was selected for several all conference teams during that same time and played on the ODP (Olympic Development Program) team as well.
Moving on to college, I played at Western Colorado University in Gunnison for four years and was selected as Captain for my junior and senior years, helping to lead the Mountaineers to a conference championship.
I returned to Anchorage after college and started my teaching career at Aquarian Charter School. I started coaching soccer in 1995 and became a Certified Coach (Levels D and C) through the U.S. Soccer Federation. I coached in Gunnison, Colorado in 1994; West Anchorage High School from 1997-2000, and Dimond High High School in 2005. It was at Dimond where I coached the JV team to an undefeated season, and led the Varsity Team to Conference Championships in 2005. In addition to working with schools, I’ve coached at Cook Inlet Soccer with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In 2018 I joined the coaching staff at Lumen Christi, taking charge of the JV team and leading them to their first Conference Championship in 2021.
I retired from the Anchorage School District as a teacher after 25 years in 2022 but now work as an Instructional Coach at Bowman Elementary providing mentorship to new ASD teachers, guiding them with Curriculum and Data Intervention. My interest in coaching at Lumen Christi is directly related to my interest in supporting my nephew and nieces who have attended Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Elementary School, and now Lumen Christi!
