Lumen Christi is proud to be in partnership with SportsLeader, a Catholic virtue-based faith formation program for coaches and sports teams. SportsLeader’s motto is “Virtue = Strength.”
There are 4 key pillars to SportsLeader:
- Mentoring – in some fashion, our coaches are implementing one-on-one mentoring.
- Virtue of the Week – inspirational prayers, stories, coaching tips built around specific virtues. Emails are sent each Friday to coaches and teachers to implement these virtues into their practice and game time as well as classroom activities.
- Ceremonies – that nurture the athlete’s relationship with faith and family – such as special “Jersey” or “letters to Mom” ceremonies that connect parents and athletes.
- Catholic Identity – sports teams witness our identity as a Catholic School when they compete, when they pray before and after practice and games, celebrate Team Masses, and when they participate in Rosary Rallies.
Founded in 2004 and partnering with over 100 Catholic schools around the lower 48 and Mexico, SportsLeader is endorsed by the Vatican Office of Church and Sport. Lumen Christi is the only school in Alaska to incorporate this unique program into its athletics.
